THE CONTRIBUTION OF IN-SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAMS TO THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICS TEACHERS

Abstract


This paper presents a way of training elementary school mathematics teachers. The viewpoint taken is that the teaching profession is a continuous learning process for those who practice it. The first part will present a model of mathematics teachers in-service training program as put forward by the authors and later tested and researched. The second part will present examples from the curriculum of the in-service training program. It will touch upon the manner by which mathematics teachers are instructed and encouraged to carry out projects in their schools.
